Introduction to project brief

Hi my name is Shahana I am currently studying BA Hair and Make-up Design. From a very young age my passion was makeup, I love working with different types of people and making them feel beautiful about them self. I previously studied Hair and Media makeup and that's I development skills even further. I remember being as young as 14 practicing makeup on myself and just had so much passion for makeup but never actually had the confidence to go further with my makeup skills as being young I was very confused on what I wanted to do and become so it took me a while to finally realize that makeup was the only thing I ever wanted to do. I am currently working for Christian Dior but have previously worked for benefit, fashion shows and exbhition. I am finally here doing what I love to do and getting a degree, I never knew this ever going to be possible so here my journey begins in Makeup and hair design at Solent Southamptom University.

My first project for my new and exciting course is 'New Elizabethans' I will be doing make-up and hair for contemporary and historical Elizabethan. I was very excited to hear about this project I was going to work on as I have worked on the typical periods like the 60's 20's and so on. When I was young my favourite historical topic was the Tudors and I was obsessed with their lifestyle and the historical culture. I come from a very cultural background and I had notice that even till this date there are some this that haven't changed from the Elizabethan era which I will go in to much more.

Queen Elizabeh I was the daughter of Henry the VIII and Anne Boyleyn she became queen after Mary and was the last to rule from the Tudors line. She was known as the virgin Queen and for that she became very famous. Queen Elizabeth to me is an inspiration and an idol I believe she was a strong and independent woman who did what she wanted and didn't need a mans help, I love the fact she did not bother to much about marriage because back then and even now a woman without a man is seen that she is not able to do anything and sadly this is still seen even now. Men are usually who the people thought are capable of ruling and where the ones to be seen as the main ruler of most countries. I love the fact she ruled England all by herself without a man and when I look at Queen Elizabeth I see a woman whose going against the typical thinking of people then and now that you need a husband to be strong and be something, even in our generation now we have strong independent women who stand up for themselves without having a man to protect them. In my Asian culture a non wedded woman is seen as useless and unsuccessful but Queen Elizabeth is the evidence of what you can do even without a man.

The beauty for the Elizabethans was white porcelain skin light hair red or blond and light eyes natural red lips and red cheeks she also plucked her hairline and eyebrows to make her forehead look bigger so that showed how intelligent one was. Queen Elizabeth became a big fashion icon where people would damage their skins pluck off their eyebrows wear wig to look like her and even draw on being on the face to make it seem the skin was almost transparent.
